The State as Guardian

The first sentence is a tip-off that something is very wrong with modern psychiatry and the people who welcome the drama.

She has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and attention-deficit (hyperactivity) disorder. Now 18, she is a patient at Worcester State Hospital, her mother said, where she is finally receiving the therapy and a “pretty powerful combination” of psychotropic medications that are noticeably helping Ashleigh.

That people buy into this kind of claptrap is frightening. The government has been ramping up its case against the citizenry by creating and growing a crisis where none exists. In the "disordered society" the masses are conditioned to believe that we all have a disorder or mental illness that needs big government to diagnose, explain, and cure it. Unfortunately, people do believe these things to be real and in need of a government solution:

The U.S. Surgeon General’s office has estimated that one of every five Americans 18 or younger has a diagnosable mental disorder, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services concludes that one in 10 has a serious, impairing mental illness such as bipolar disorder, severe depression, or anxiety disorder.

Remember that George Bush wants to test everybody for mental illness while Big Pharma gets richer by medicating us all, thanks to the perversely named "Freedom Commission."

On a related note, the other day on the local news I saw a young man, with his family, being interviewed about some silly, nanny-state law that was passed. His response was, "In the end, I think it's a good thing because we all need these kind of laws to protect us from ourselves." So here it is: this man can't take care of himself, and certainly can't take care of his family. So he appeals to assorted bodies of elected officials, with interests vastly different than his own, to guide the lives and choices of his family, because he's too weak to take responsibility. Indeed, he is the typical voter that exists to empower The Machine against all free men who don't desire (and don't ask for) any such empowerment over their own lives. That is why democracy is tyranny. Thanks to Charles Everett for the link.
