Republicans for Autos

The Republicans have been gearing up for the Michigan primary tomorrow by schmoozing with the auto industry, where they are trying to win votes from disenchanted workers. The North American International Auto Show is starting up this week, so the Repubs have been busy taking advantage of all the hoopla, fighting over photo ops with pretty cars, and vying for auto industry favor. They (the candidates) have all promised to make Detroit the King of Kars again, and subsidies as part of the new "economic stimulus package" were implied.

The last time Barack Obama was in Detroit, he was almost run out of town. He spoke in front of the Detroit Economic Club and chided auto execs for not making fuel-efficient cars. When the Detroit press got all over him for driving a Chrysler 300 Hemi, he promptly replaced that with a Ford Escape hybrid.
